It’s always sad reading these type reports, hearing more beautiful young men in Asian countries are succumbing to fleeting unprotected sexual experiences and ending up HIV+ will many of them have the benefit of life saving medication? For the poor and rent boys in particular it’s probably not likely, I agree with statements made here about shady tourists trawling for sex on holidays looking to engage young guys into unprotected sex I agree with some that may be it’s time for homosexual males to pull back from rampant sexuality and go more for dating and temporary celibacy (abstinence) till they find some one that will respect and honour them, your sexual integrity is an important component to a good quality of life, I’m almost three years celibate it’s no big deal I know I’m not missing out on much especially the newer presently incurable strain of gonorrhea which is a relief in it self, when I was younger less wise and available to all comers (excuse the phrase) jeje I wasn’t happy just being a cheap fuck it lowered my self esteem and most sexual experiences were shabby and unsatisfying which is why so many men pump them selves up on alcohol or amphetamines to cloak the shallowness and lack of enjoy ability is this lesser kind of life style, there are many kinds of ‘gay life styles’ one can choose not just the promiscuous option this should be taught to younger men help them find more direction and time for some good old fashioned mentoring that’s not set up to lure them into sex.

I believe that whites in the 'gay scene' here is much more prejudiced against people from Asian backgrounds than the over all community is, online profile statements like 'not into Asians' etc. by gay men are common place, that said lets face it White colonial immigrant Australians are now a dying breed eventually they will be in the minority much like New Zealand is heading, there lies their dilemma they are often a arrogant and conceited lot they do so to hide their insecurities they have nothing else going for them and use being prejudiced as a way to prop up their fragile ego's in the greater scheme of things most are nothing and nobodies and they can’t stand that others do better than them. As far as marriage goes who really cares ‘gay marriage groups are small and really command no great support rarely managing to get more than a hundred or even that on their street rallies, marriage it's a discredited and unreliable model for relationships I think it's best to go the civil partnerships route but one where Gays Straights monogamists and polygamists can all access equally no special one for 'gays' only

I have a 29 year old Thai male staying in my house who came to Los Angeles 3 1/2 years ago to study. He was a roommate of my ex. He came to me 13 weeks ago after hitting bottom with a meth addiction. I took him in got him to a clinic and of course he turn out HIV pos as well. By his own admission he was looking for love in all the wrong places, hookups on line, bath house and got involved in meth and used it almost daily for 2 years. If he really liked a guy he would let him bareback him thinking they would like him better. Of course he was also high most of the time. In Los Angeles the meth use at certain bathhouses is almost to epidemic proportions and a high percentage of those users are HIV pos because of their risky behavior while on the meth. Needless to say this party and play culture that exists now is creating problems. The young man now is clean of the meth for 13 weeks except for one slip up. When he got his CD4 count it was dangerously low and honestly he is lucky he came to me when he did. His numbers are coming up but he is of course at times deeply depressed about his HIV status and having to return to Thailand where many companies gives blood tests when hiring people (to avoid health care costs)(he is educated and has a masters degree). He was completely addicted to meth and sex for 3 years and it came close to killing him. He has a long tough road ahead of himself now. Lagunabro's comments are right on the mark. Too many guys are out hooking up for sex because they are lonely and starved for companionship rather than lusting after the sex. It seems the current thought now is that engaging in sex up front is see as the only way to obtain a boyfriend. Seems kind of backwards to me, but then maybe I am old fashioned as well as just being old. A word of advise particularly to you bottoms. If a guy wants to bareback you he does not give a damn about you or himself. He wants his gratification and that is all that counts. Don't be a fool!

No use. It has been made that way. Satan has stigmatize homosexuals by making the whole world to think that the blood of homosexuals is dirty since 1982 when HIV was named as GRID. In actual fact, the blood of homoseuxals is holy and divine because Jesus is a homosexual, who died on the cross and His blood saves the whole world from sin. It is the blood of Jesus which defeats Satan, and that is why Satan hates His blood. In order to take revenge against Jesus, he harbour this bitterness for 2000 years and makes the whole world to think that the blood of homosexuals is dirty. In this way satan will feel that He has defeated Jesus, the Son of God. The one and only way for a breakthrough in this issue and for our vindication is for Jesus to come out. He must come out loud and proud that He is a homosexual. Homosexuality is holy and divine, and not a sin. A complete cure for HIV must be found through the body/ stem cells/ blood of homosexuals, not through vaccine. That is to say, the situation will remain like that until the cure for HIV is found and the truth of homosexuality is revealed. When will it be? No one knows. But please support embryonic stem cell research. That is the right path to breakthrough.

As for Malaysian, in the gay community, there are those who are educated and they are aware of the knowledge on HIV, its transmission and safer sex lifestyle, but shockingly its not the case in their bahaviour.. I think its similar like in Singapore when I left the country 5 years plus ago.. since we are talking about those who are educated and internet savvy, and who have access to the HIV knowledge and information, still do not practise safer sex lifestyle, what about those who do not have access to the information on the internet or any where else.. this is referring to those who are living in the urban areas in Malaysia, what about those who are from sub urban and rural areas, I think they are the least to have access to this info. Thus, you can imagine in another 5 years or 10 years down to road, what will be the scene and situation in Malaysia will be.. among the MSM and gay community.. are going to be like Thailand in their 80s? I wonder.. Malaysia being a muslim country and with other religions believe system, which is still very much conservative and the obstacle to open sexual and sexuality discussions in this nation, is not helping much in the prevention of this HIV epidemic.. What is the politician and government leaders thinking? Why can they not see this clear picture in the future for Malaysia? There will be no future for Malaysia, as we are talking about One Malaysia, if they do not wake up from their slumber and truly understand the current situation here in Malaysia. As for those who claimed to be activists in the scene are also not seeing the real picture and getting themselves involve with NGOs who are currently already doing the ground work and to lend a helping hand to walk their talk and not just like sounding gongs without much bigger impact in changing the scene.. Thanks to fridae for this great project as it does help to bring out the facts of what is really going on in Malaysia from the participation of the Malaysian members in this project. Bravo and kudos for the job well done and great actions will be needed for the Malaysia counterpart to truly want to change the scene for better in years to come.

it's great to know that more Malaysians hav gone for testing to know their status, however it is unnerving to find out more people chose to practice unsafe sex even at this age where awareness and STD knowledge is exposed.

Is it true - as the PM said in parliament - that it's constitutionally sound NOT to repeal 377A - in other words Singapore's Constitution allows for the provision to discriminate against GLBT? If that's true then we are wasting our time with penal code reforms. Besides when is this going to be put back on the agenda or are all the local queens doing what their grandfather wants yet again?

I agree too with Lagunabro. Thailand is a wake up to all of us. While the rate of contraction might be higher in Thailand, I have known people in Australia who have had HIV. One young kid committed suicide as a result. The whole attitude as a whole needs to change. This idea of random drunk hook ups which is promoted alot in 'the scene' is really quite stupid. Know someone who has been affected by HIV and you will know why.

I won't be surprised if Nepal becomes the first country in Asia to give legal recognition to same sex marriage.
